Bank deposits move to Isle of Man from Channel Islands

03/09/2010

Jersey-based Lloyds TSB owned Halifax International closes its operations and moves its deposits to Lloyds TSB International in the Isle of Man and Northern Rock closes its Guernsey-based offshore arm.

Halifax International has not issued a formal statement regarding the closure but new customers are being invited to make managing their money abroad ‘easier with Lloyds TSB International’ and offered a selection of Lloyds TSB products.  Most of the telephone numbers provided are in the Isle of Man.

Northern Rock formally announced back in June that it was closing Northern Rock (Guernsey) Ltd on 2 September 2010 stating that the operation ‘no longer meets the company’s long-term commercial objectives’.

The Isle of Man operates a Depositor Compensation Scheme in the event that a bank should fail.
